Training Program

Pre-departure training (for future expatriates)

Before going to Japan on a long assignment, it is important to know a few things that will make your life easier. During this short session, we will give you all the information you need to settle smoothly in your new host country.

Duration: 2-3 hours

Audience: Future European expatriates and their spouses. Prerequisite: Ideally, the participants will have already taken the training: “Working and communicating with Japanese colleagues: A practical approach.”

Languages: The program can be delivered in English, French, German or Dutch

Program:

After discussion with HR and/or the future expatriate, only topics of interest to the expatriate will be covered.

Suggested topics:
  • Geography and climate
  • What to pack (things you don't find easily in Japan, furniture and appliances)
  • Transportation in Japan and how to use it
  • Quick Reference Guide (emergency and useful phone numbers for English-speaking foreigners)
  • Basic services (banking, insurance, medical care, phone, ID card and driver’s license, schools, shopping, post office, etc.)
  • Living as a foreigner in Japanese society (basic etiquette, neighbors, visiting someone's home, public baths, etc.)
  • Discover your new city (explanation of the different areas of the city where the expatriate will be relocated.)
  • Gastronomy Guide
  • Basic Japanese language course

Our trainer, who has lived in Japan for many years, will supplement the presentation with his/her own experience.

Expected Outcomes: By the end of the training, the participants will:

  • Understand the basics of Japanese life style
  • Be able to integrate more quickly in his/her new environment
